Engineering Head
Job Description
We are looking for the Engineering Head who will lead and oversee the entire Engineering function for the SAF project, ensuring strategic alignment across licensors, FEED, EPC, and pre-operations activities. This role holds ultimate accountability for engineering performance from project inception to provisional acceptance and transition to Operations & Maintenance (O&M). The Engineering Head will provide visionary leadership, governance, and technical direction across all engineering disciplines (excluding Process Engineering, which has separate leadership) to deliver a world-class petrochemical facility. This position will report directly to the Project Director.

Tasks and Responsibilities :
• Set the strategic vision for Engineering within the SAF Project, ensuring alignment with overall project objectives and O&M requirements.
• Serve as the single point of accountability for all Engineering deliverables, design quality, and compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
• Act as a technical authority and escalation point for all disciplines lead under Engineering, excluding Process.
• Lead all Engineering Management phases: from licensor engagement, design standardization, FEED oversight, detailed design, procurement support, construction engineering, to pre-commissioning.
• Establish and drive Engineering KPIs, reporting structures, and performance reviews to ensure alignment with project timelines and budget.
• Ensure the development and enforcement of Engineering Design Standards, drawing from licensor input, PT ESSA lessons learned, and international best practices.
• Oversee technical content of MRs, vendor selection, and field engineering practices to ensure quality and fit-for-purpose outcomes.
• Engage closely with the Project Director, Head of Projects, and cross-functional PMT members to drive integrated project decisions.
• Liaise with licensors, FEED/EPC/PMC contractors, vendors, and external authorities for timely engineering approvals and coordination.
• Align Engineering outputs with Operations & Maintenance goals through early engagement and design-for-operability approach.
• Build and mentor a high-performing engineering team capable of executing complex project scopes under stringent safety and quality expectations.
• Promote knowledge transfer and capacity-building through coaching and succession planning.
Requirements :
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical preferred); Master’s degree or Chartered Engineer certification is an advantage
• Minimum 20 years of experience in oil & gas, refining, or petrochemical industries, with at least 12 years in Engineering Leadership roles across the full project lifecycle
• Proven track record in leading multidisciplinary engineering teams in FEED, EPC, and site construction
• Start-up and operational readiness experience in petrochemical or refining facilities is essential
• Demonstrated experience in setting and enforcing Engineering Standards, Quality Assurance, and HSSEQ integration
• Familiarity with risk assessment methods (e.g., HAZOP, FMEA, SIL), and project management tools (SAP, Oracle, Primavera, etc.)
• Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication capabilities, including experience working with international teams
• Ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on problem-solving in a fast-paced project environment
